Spring Tour (Redbud Tour)

One of the most beautiful displays of nature can be found during the redbud and dogwood bloom season in the hills of the Little Cities of Black Diamonds/Little Cities of the Forest microregion in southeastern Ohio.  So why not experience beauty while learning the microregion’s story?  On Friday, April 20 the first ever Little Cities Redbud Tour is set.  The day long tour will begin and end at the Tecumseh Commons in Shawnee.  After experiencing Shawnee’s historic district guests will take off into the hills to visit a watershed restoration site, historic Rendville, a short hike to the striking view at Monroe Outlook, a boat ride across Burr Oak Lake, the Miner’s Museum at Murray City, the Haydenville and Nelsonville Historic Districts, New Straitsville’s Robinson’s Cave and historic Payne Cemetery.  A picnic lunch at Burr Oak is included as well as van transportation, morning refreshments, shopping and snacks along the way.  With the early arrival of Spring this year, the tour has been renamed the Spring Tour.  The redbuds bloomed  3 weeks early this year due to an unseasonable March.  However, we expect the Dogwood trees to still be in bloom by the 20th and the neon green of the Spring forest canopy to be equally as beautiful!

Tour fee is $68 per per person.    LCBD members and students receive the special rate of $60 per tour.  To register call or e-mail the Little Cities Council Office at 740-394-3011 or lcbd@ohiohills.com.  Visa, MC and Discover Cards are accepted.  Deadline for registration is Friday, April 13, 2012.

A special rate of $125 for combined Spring Tour (April 20) and Cemetery Tour (May 11) Visa, MC and Discover Cards are accepted.
